The last few months of 2016 were super busy for me. Even though I haven’t posted in a few months, I haven’t been totally idle. Here are a few projects from last fall that never made their way on to the internet:
#1: DIY Window Shelves
Our apartment has tiny window sills, they’re only about 2 inches deep. This wasn’t a problem in the summer when we had the windows open, but when we closed up for winter, my plants needed a home. I made these super simple shelves to extend the window sills using some wood, eye hooks and small black chain:
#2: Spray Painted File Cabinet
I found a small file cabinet at Goodwill for $2.00. It was an ugly cream color with some discolored areas. I spray painted the outside black and the drawers turquoise to match my desk. This in-progress photo shows the original color:
And the final product:
#3: Simple Curtains
Our office needed curtains, so I got this flat sheet at the thrift store for $2.00:
I cut it into 4 even strips and hemmed around each one to make two sets of these curtains:
#4: Matching Tablecloth and Valance
Another thrift store find was this cute table cloth:
The only problem was that it was way too big for our tiny kitchen table. I cut the table cloth down to an appropriate size and then used the extra material to make a matching valance for the kitchen window:
#5: Nightstand Makeover
I got this junky nightstand at the thrift store for $1.50:
A little bit of paint and a new drawer pull made a huge difference:
I used some of the leftover paint to make Doug’s nightstand match mine:
Looking forward to 2017!
I still have a ton of project ideas that I want to try. Now that the holidays are over and life is slowing down a bit, I hope to get more frequent posts on here. One of my resolutions for 2017 is to get more blog posts published than I did in 2016. We’ll see how it goes!
